RACCOON
Procyon lotor

Raccoons are found throughout the state and are common in most of the areas in this work. They are nocturnal and thus are often seen while herping. They are not averse to dining on roadkill animals. They are, themselves, often seen as roadkills. The young usually appear with a parent in June or July.
They are fair climbers, but nowhere near as adept at climbing as their cousins, the ringtails.
This young animal was photographed while on a foray with a parent and siblings.
